| Most applications under Windows 95, 98, and NT allow you to store their passwords, such as the password of your dial-in ISP, the password of your email client, or FTP tool. Once the password is stored, it is hidden under a row of asterisks (*) and cannot be read by you again. This program is designed to help you read any of your passwords that are covered by the asterisks by simply dragging the 007 special cursor over a password field. Once the 007 cursor is on top of a hidden password field, the program displays the password instantly on its screen. |

| 007 Write All Stored Passwords is a simple little utility that displays all the password information stored in the .pwl (password list) file for the user currently logged in. While the program is very useful for retrieving long-forgotten passwords, it also represents a mild security risk. Anyone accessing the program while you're logged on can easily retrieve this sensitive information. It's effortless to use and -- better yet -- it's free. A tabbed interface displays password information for Websites, dial-up accounts, others, and all. It also allows you to delete the file altogether. |

| Cain is a password recovery tool for Windows 95/98 operating systems. It allows to recover Logon passwords, Share passwords (local and remote), Screen Saver passwords, DialUp passwords, Link passwords and any other application defined passwords cached in your system or in external .PWL and registry files. With Cain these passwords can also be modified quickly. This program demonstrates that Windows 95/98 Password Caching and Share-Level Access Control could be security problems. If you are using Windows 95/98 you should disable Password Caching and use User-Level Access Control for your shared resources. |

L0phtCrack 2.5 is the wake-up call. We recently performed an audit of a large high technology company. Here is what we found.
L0phtCrack 2.5 cracked 90% of the passwords in under 48 hours on a Pentium II/300.
18% of the passwords were cracked in under 10 minutes.
The Administrator and most of the Domain Admin passwords were cracked.
This company had a policy requiring passwords longer than 8 characters with at least one upper case character plus a numeric or symbol character.
You might think your password policy is strong, but you'll never know until you put it to the test. |
